How to Connect Google Analytics to AcuBliss

Learn how to connect Google Analytics, track bookings across your website and portal, and use bookings as Google Ads conversions.

Overview

AcuBliss connects directly to your existing Google Analytics account, so you can see traffic and booking activity for your practice website in one place.

Where to Find It

The Google Analytics integration lives under Settings > Integrations, in the Google tab. From there, you can connect it to your existing Google Analytics account.

Step-by-Step

  1. In Google Analytics, copy your Google tag ID.

  2. In AcuBliss, go to Settings > Integrations.

  3. Select the Google tab.

  4. Click Add Google Analytics.

  5. Paste your Google tag ID and save.

Supported Tag ID Format

💡 Important: We only support GA4-style tag IDs — G-XXXXXXXXXX or GT-XXXXXXXXXX. Universal Analytics IDs are not supported.

What We Track

Once connected, we load the standard gtag.js library in your tenant HTML template and initialize it with send_page_view: false, since booking runs as a single-page app and we send page_view events manually as patients move through each step. All events are sent client-side with send_to set to your tag ID, so they land in your GA4 property.

The events we send are:

  • page_view: Sent on each booking route change, with a sanitized booking_step (practitioner, office, service, date_time, confirmation, completed, payment).

  • booking_initiated: Sent once when a patient starts booking by choosing a practitioner or service.

  • booking_step_view: Sent when a patient reaches key steps — office, service, date_time, confirmation, or payment.

  • begin_checkout: Sent when a patient clicks to book and payment is required.

  • add_payment_info: Sent when a patient uses or adds a payment method during booking.

  • booking_completed: Sent after the backend accepts the booking, with payment_required and payment_collected flags.

  • purchase: Sent only when payment was actually collected, including transaction_id, value, currency, and line items (appointment or package).

  • generate_lead: Sent when a booking completes without collected payment — for example, appointments that don't require prepayment.

Patient Privacy

We never send patient names, emails, phone numbers, appointment notes, practitioner names, service names, or raw booking URLs with IDs or slugs. Booking paths are sanitized into generic funnel paths like /booking/service or /booking/confirmation before they reach GA.

Campaign Attribution & Duplicate Prevention

We don't manually pass campaign IDs or UTM parameters. Google Analytics handles attribution through its own tag and cookies, so a patient arriving from a campaign URL keeps that campaign as long as Google can carry the session onto your booking portal.

If patients start on your own practice website and then click through to your AcuBliss booking portal, they're moving between two domains. To keep the original source (like Google Ads) instead of seeing your website as a referral, set up cross-domain measurement as shown below.

On our side, booking_initiated only fires once per booking session, checkout and completion events use in-memory dedupe keys, and step views are briefly throttled to avoid accidental double sends. Starting a new booking resets those dedupe keys, so a second booking in the same browser tab is still tracked correctly.

Tracking Across Your Website and Booking Portal

Google uses a linker parameter (_gl) to pass the visitor's session from your website to your booking portal. It only needs to reach Google's tag when the portal first loads. After that, Google's cookies keep the session going through every booking step.

💡 Important: Your website and your AcuBliss portal must use the same GA4 measurement ID, from the same web data stream. If they use different IDs, Google treats them as separate sites and bookings show up as referrals.

  1. Use the same GA4 measurement ID on your website and in Settings > Integrations > Google > Google Analytics.

  2. In GA4, add both your website domain and your AcuBliss domain (for example, yourpractice.acubliss.app) to your cross-domain settings.

  3. If you run Google Ads, link your Ads account to that same GA4 property and turn on auto-tagging.

  4. Point your Book Now button directly to your booking page: https://yourpractice.acubliss.app/portal/booking/. A link that opens in a new tab works fine.

  5. Make a test booking and confirm in GA4 that the session keeps its original source.

Using Bookings as Google Ads Conversions

  • To count appointments booked: use booking_completed. It fires once the appointment is successfully created, whether or not payment is required.

  • To count payments collected at booking: use purchase.

  • Pick one as your primary conversion. A paid booking sends both events, so counting both would count the same booking twice.

booking_completed also includes bookings pending practitioner approval and waitlist entries, where those apply. It measures a successful booking submission, not attendance.

Important Notes

  • Connecting the account is the easy part and happens on our side in a few clicks.

  • Reading the data in Google Analytics is a separate step, since it's a Google product. Google's own YouTube channel has tutorials on reading traffic and campaign trends once your account is connected.

  • Adding the tracking code to your website is fastest through the developer who built your site, if someone other than AcuBliss manages it.
